Let's Stop Pretending America Can be Healed
We need to stop pretending that we can ever mend the divisions which are ripping this country apart. America cannot be healed and that's okay, but we need to admit this before our disagreements devolve into open warfare.
America has lasted so long because the State governments were charged with developing the laws and regulations within their borders. This essentially made our government decentralized. New York could develop its own laws in accordance with the desires of its citizens, and the neighboring citizens of Connecticut could develop a set of laws better suited to their own circumstance. It is a system that elegantly allowed for regional differences to prosper without sacrificing the benefits gained by creating a single nation out of the many colonies.
In theory federalism could allow for extreme differences between the States. If the residents of New York or California wanted to live in a socialist society, they could do so without forcing Texas to join their experiment.
The situation the media has created is far worse than any disagreement over the role of government and economic systems. Americans now live in multiple distinct realities - think the Mandela Effect on steroids. Some Americans live in a reality where white cops happily gun down black or brown Americans with impunity. Other Americans live in a reality where at any moment Donald Trump will make his glorious return to power. There is a reality where the Capital is under the constant siege of QAnon. In another reality COVID-19 is the deadliest disease humanity has ever faced. In yet another reality believe COVID-19 doesn't even exist.
The unique truths professed in one reality cannot be reconciled with the truths found in other different realities. The only commonality between realities is that words no longer have a collective meaning. Silence is violence. Words are also violence. Everything is violence except violence itself. Frankly, we no longer even agree on the meanings of man and woman.
The media has done such a complete job of dividing Americans that we can no longer communicate with each other. If we can't communicate, how are we ever supposed to understand what other groups believe? It's simply not possible.
We are split into multiple realities without any way to understand the beliefs of other Americans. The split has already happened, and it happened long ago. The only thing left to do is write what everyone already knows to be true on paper and split this country up. If we wait to long, there will be warfare and that is something no one wants. The clock is ticking.
